Shared Note: - Robert, Elizabeth and infant daughter, Jeanne, came to the United States in late summer 1886 on the ship "Alabama". Elizabeth died early in 1887, soon after their arrival, and their infant daughter died in the fall of 1887 at about 1 1/2 years of age. Jeannne and her mother, Elizabeth Jane, are buried together in the Miller Chapel Cemetery. Their tombstone is near the gate, but most of the inscription is now unreadable, after 122 years (2009). For a short time after his great loss, Robert lived with (or nearby) his sister, Jane (Agnew) Barker and family. In 1893, he purchased a farm N. of Keosauqua, Van Buren, Iowa; he resided there until his death in 1938.
