- In the 1930's he was the secretary to the high school principal, Guthrie, OK.
- After moving to CA, he worked as a self-employed carpenter.
- During WWII, he worked at B.F. Goodrich, Pomona, CA. Rode a bike back and forth.
- Early 1950's he preached and ministered in several Southern Calif. churches.

Walter entered many contests throughout his lifetime; several times he was a winner. One time he won a case of "Old Dutch Cleanser". Another time he won a case of the most terrible tasting candy bars; we tried to like them, but eventually threw them out. His biggest win was a motorcycle; he sold it to his brother-in-law, John Loofbourrow. Uncle John enjoyed riding it for many years; also, so many kids enjoyed the rides he gave them, including the author's daughters!
Walter was a farmer, carpenter, stenographer, pianist, inventor, minister, and Bible scholar/teacher, but he was best known as a "fine Christian gentleman".
