Carl retired from the Navy. His ashes were scattered over the ship, Arizona, in Hawaii, in remembrance of his cousin and dear friend, little Jo Barker, who went down with the ship. Info from Carl's obituary, Whidbey News Times, 26 Nov 2003.
Carl Day Winslow, 79, of Oak Harbor entered into the presence of the Lord on Aug. 27, 2002. Carl was born in Des Moines, Iowa, March 20, 1923, to proud parents Lloyd B. Winslow and Hollie C. Morris. Carl joined the Navy at age 17 in 1941. He served in the Pacific Theater through the duration of World War II as an aviation ordnanceman chief petty officer and later served in China during its fall and then Korea. In 1947 he married Shirley Mae Green. Carl retired from the Navy in 1959 after which he opened a truck stop in Buena Park, Calif. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley of Oak Harbor; daughter Carla of Mobile, Ala.; son Scott of Spokane; son-in-law Les, daughter-in-law Angeles; and four grandchildren, Zachary, Rebecca, Carolina and Carmen. Carl was very loving to his family and helped many people in need. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His ashes will be spread over the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where his cousin and very close friend Little Jo Barker rests after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
