Northwood, IA- Jerry D. McIntire, 72, of Northwood, a former teacher in the Belle Plaine schools and former mayor of the city, died June 17, 2009 at Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at First Lutheran Church, Northwood with Rev. Daniel Hart officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood. Visitation will be held from 12-1:30 p.m. at the church.
Jerry D. McIntire was born December 18, 1936 to Wayne and Madge ‏(Harper)‏ McIntire in Fairfield, IA. He graduated from Parson College in 1958, and received his master from Colorado State in 1965. On July 19, 1959, he married Anne Winslow in Fairfield, IA. Jerry taught in New London, IA. After moving to Belle Plaine, he continued to teach business education from 1965-1985, was the golf coach for several years and also served as mayor from 1974-78 and again in 1983.
He became Superintendent in Dows, IA, later moving to Northwood where after ten years he retired.
Jerry loved bowling, and was a St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was in a barbershop quartet, church choir and served on various boards and committees.
He was a respected friend to many, and was "A good Man."
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anne, and three sisters; Shirley, Sandra and Patricia.
He is survived by three brothers: Jack ‏(Maggie)‏ McIntire of Greensboro, NC, Bruce McIntire of Davenport, IA and Alan McIntire of Fairfield, IA. Two sisters: Marcia ‏(Jim)‏ Caldwell of Broadhead, WI, and Judy Randolph of Fairfax, VA; Special Friend Charlene Manwargie.
