Shared Note: - (Research):Vercill Karl Loofbourow was born, raised, and retired in Pomona, CA. He attended Pomona schools: Hamilton Elementary, Fremont Jr. High, and Pomona High School, through the tenth grade. He broke both arms while he was in grade-school; how that happened is unknown. He was drafted into the military at age 22. His older brother, Delmar, joined the Navy before he did. He served in the US Navy, Jun 1943 - Aug 1945. His 23rd birthday was celebrated at Pearl Harbor, Territory of Hawaii. His rank was Boson Mate Second Class. At the time of Vercill and Ruth's marriage, he was employed by the Brentwood Egg Company/Safeway. Their daughter, Debby, son-in-law, Dwayne, and granddaughter, Amanda, lived with them during his and Ruth's later years.
Vercill was born in Pomona, CA on October 15, 1920 and lived there until last year. After serving in the US Navy in the South Pacific during World War II, Vercill drove egg delivery trucks for Safeway until his retirement in 1983 at age 63. An active man, Vercill was an avid gardener, woodworker, jam maker, hiker and fisherman. After a sudden illness, he passed away less than a week after celebrating his 91st birthday.
Two memorial services were held for him both on 5 Nov 2011. One was held at 2:00 pm, at the American Legion, Post 200, Lake Elsinore, Riverside, CA. The other one was held the same day, at the same time (4:00 pm OK time), at the Wyndemere Addition Club House, Moore, OK.
