Show Details Shared Note: - (Research):Harold Syfert, 97, of Hillsboro, died at Pleasant Manor Care Center.

Born in Keosauqua, he was the son of James and Lily Warner Syfert. On July 21, 1943, he married Helen M. Watson in Ottumwa.

Mr. Syfert was a farmer and sheep shearer. He sheared all over Southeast Iowa and out west in Wyoming and Montana. He lived in rural Salem for 33 years, later moving to Fairfield and then moved to Hillsboro where he and his wife lived for more than 20 years. Mr. Syfert grew up in rural Keosauqua where he attended country school. He attended Salem Friends Church. He enjoyed being outdoors, turkey hunting, fishing and trapping.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Carroll Syfert and Doyle Syfert, both of Salem; nine grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; one brother, Rex Syfert of Keosauqua; and three sisters, Kathryn Beer of Marion, Ruth Stansberry of Cedar Rapids, and Mary Bradfield of Birmingham.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, two brothers and one sister.

The funeral for Mr. Syfert was held at Salem Friends Church with the Rev. Nathan Martin officiating.
