KEOSAUQUA - Evelyn M. Syfert, 93, of Keosauqua, formerly of Fairfield and Birmingham, died at 5:55 a.m. Sept. 6, 2015, at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua. She was born May 26, 1922, in rural Keosauqua to Rex Vale and Goldie Gibson Kerr and married Glen N. Syfert on Sept. 30, 1938, in Fairfield. He died Dec. 25, 2005. They lived in Fairfield, Cherokee Village, Arkansas, and Birmingham. Evelyn entered Good Samaritan Center, Keosauqua, in 2008. She was a longtime member of Fairfield Church of the Nazarene and had been a Sunday school teacher and choir member, had been a member of Fairfield Rebekah Lodge and cooked at Red & Ruth's and Ranch Drive-in restaurants and worked many years at Fairfield Glove Company. Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Johnson and Joyce Fulton, both of Mt. Pleasant, and Janice Sparks ‏(Gary)‏ of Fairfield; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Shull and a brother, Donald Kerr. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua; with her grandson, Chad Rath officiating. Burial will be in Fellows Cemetery, Keosauqua. Visitation will open at 3 p.m. Wednesday with family present 5-7 p.m. Memorials to Van Buren County Hospital or Midwest Old Thrasher's Reunion may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family c/o Janice Sparks to 1827 Hwy. 1, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.
