Show Details Shared Note: - WILLIAM RITTENHOUSE II (1720-1799) was born in Amwell Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. His will, probated 5 May 1799, names his second wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Van Norman ( a widow) and 12 children [6 sons and 6 daughters presumed by his first wife]. After his marriage to REBECCA HARNED and several years prior to the Revolutionary War he settled on a farm just west of Locktown, NJ, on a hill on the north side of the Locktown-Kingwood road; he and his wife were buried in an old cemetery near Prallsville, NJ. He was baptized on 16 October 1743 in the Kingwood Baptist Church (established 1743), Hunterdon County, NJ. It was not the church of his parents so, since he was over 20, it may have been that of his fiancée (Larew, 1975).

His will, drawn 3 January 1799, probated 5 May 1799 cites: wife Elizabeth retains all land and goods belonging to her prior to their marriage; sons Benjamin, William, Garret, Abner; son Daniel the remainder of the homestead plantation; the six children of daughter Hannah Hyde ‏(deceased)‏: Amelia ‏(her heirs)‏, Rebecca, Jonathan, William, Benjamin, and Anna; daughters: Presylla Freeman, Anne Dansdill, Rebecca Bonham, Catherine Heath, Abigail Larue; executors: Benjamin Rettinghouse and Daniel Rettinghouse, both of Kingwood Township, NJ; witnesses: Uriah Sutton, Aaron Swayze, and Uriah Bonham.
