Shared Note: - Captain Leabo's Company (Later called Company G), 2nd Indiana Cavalry, 41st Regiment, Camp Bridgeland. He was enrolled as company quartermaster sergeant. The 2nd Cavalry trained at Indianapolis and broke camp on 16 December 1861, transferring to Louisville, Kentucky. Peter was reported present for the January/February and March/April 1862 company rolls. The 2nd Cavalry moved across country to Louisville, and then to Camp Wickliffe. In February 1862 it marched with Buell's army toward Nashville, occupied the town until February 25, and then marched to the Tennessee River to reach Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee, sometime between March 20 and April 8. On the 9th of April the 2nd had a skirmish with the enemy on the road to Corinth. It was here that Peter J. said later he was left behind with a saber wound sustained at the battle of Shiloh at Pittsburg Landing on the second day of the fight, and also suffering with a hernia received enroute earlier through Kentucky. On 10 June 1862, in Evansville, Peter J. was listed as absent because of sickness, and apparently he never returned to the company until May 1865. January through August 1863 company rolls, Peter J. — now with the rank of private, was considered a deserter, as of 10 June 1862. At the end of his original enlistment on 4 October 1864, Peter appeared on the company muster-out rolls still as a deserter. Then on 7 May 1865, in Nashville, TN, Peter was arrested as a deserter, and subsequently received a court martial on 20 June 1865. He was ordered to report for duty with his old outfit, Company K, after forfeiting all back pay from October 1861 to June 20, 1865. Two days later, however, on 22 June 1865, Peter J. was mustered out of service under Standing Order No. 14. He likely returned to Ann in Cataract. Where he had been between 10 June 1862 and 7 May 1865 is unknown. .
