Shared Note: - Although John Abner was born in Cedar Twp., Van Buren County, IA, he always gave his birthplace as Hillsboro, Henry, IA The old farm house and property where he (and his siblings) were born is actually located in the town of Stockport; this town was not in existence until more recent years. The closest town to them in the old days was Hillsboro, Henry County, IA, which was their postal route; therefore, they gave it as their birthplace.

John Abner worked as a farmer, oil salesman and carpenter during his lifetime. He loved to fish! Two of his favorite places to fish were Puddingstone Dam and Lake Henshaw. When he sat in his rocking chair, he was either reading the Progress Bulletin newspaper or smoking his pipe. Recollections from my childhood by author.
