A question still exists regarding Robert's place and date of birth. Some say that he was born in Aryshire, Scotland; other say, Ballynarry, Antrim, N. Ireland.

Robert's birthdate is confirmed by his Death Certificate as, 12 Jan 1859. His place of birth and that of his parents is listed as Scotland; however it appears after more research that they were born in County Antrim, N. Ireland. Also, his mother's name was listed as Elizabeth Erskin. Additional research proves that her name was Jane "Jenny" Erskine Agnew.

Cousin Margaret Agnew found the Second Presbyterian/Joymount Church, Carrickfergus, Carrickfergus, N. Ireland records at PRONI, Belfast, N. Ireland, which included Robert's birth and baptismal record with parents listed as Jane Erskine and David Agnew. His birthdate is 12 Jan 1859; date of baptism as 6 Feb 1859. This information suggests that he was born in County Antrim, N. Ireland, UK, not Ayshire, Scotland, as previously thought. His birth place and date have, finally, been confirmed!
