Memorial notes from friends and relatives:
I’m a little late here. I knew Jim when I was in the Army at Fort Lewis, Washington, 1958-60. He was my nextdoor neighbor as we both lived off post with our families. My son was just about the same age as his daughter Leslie. Sorry to hear of her passing too. Jim’s wife at the time was Judy. Today, I read a post by a neighbor with the same last name, Loofbourrow which made me think of Jim. I did a google search and found this obituary. I’m sorry I never got to connect again with Jim. He was a good person with a great sense of humor and if that weren’t enough, he drove a very cool 1956 Chevy station wagon.
RIP Jim!
Your friend,
Richard

I see that James was born the same year as I. I have been sick (apparently – healing ulcer) and in the hospital for 5 days. I am now at home & continue to be getting better. I just was struck by the date. My birthday was April 13 so we were close to the same age. He was unknown to me but is nice to know.
Are we second cousins or what relationship? Thank you for any info you have.

Racing with the Sun by John Hockaday
My very best cousin
Went by the name of Jim
When it came to retiring
Here’s what he had to say:
It was something you could do more than once
And in a lot of different ways.
But sometimes just thinking about it
Can get you in a hell of a mess.
You might find yourself
on a new quest.
With a lot more time to get
A lot less done
While racing along with the sun.
Some people start each day with nothing to do
And have it half done by noon
But that wasn’t for Old Jim, I guess
He sometimes didn’t get started ‘til noon
But still loved a good quest.
He said, “All you are is what you’ve done,
So you better stay busy before the sun sinks too low
Or you might end up with nothing to show.”
Jim lived his life
Not like some of the rest
Right or wrong he did things
The way he felt was best.
When it comes to Old Jim
A lot more could be said
He didn’t really retire
‘Til his life was all done.
And he’d ran one hell of a race
With that old setting sun.
Jim was more like a brother than a cousin. We kinda grew up together and shared a lot of adventures. Later in life, he was lucky enough to run across a good little woman like you to spend the rest of his life with. A lot of people aren’t that lucky.
We’re all going to miss Jim a lot; been thinking about him every day for the past week. We’re all lucky to have known a hell of a man like Jim.

Jim was a kind, caring man who will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Jim had the ability to talk to anyone and make them feel so welcome.
Rest in peace
